PGCPS alternative to expulsion
Laurel Helping Hands partners with the Prince George’s County Public School System’s Safe and Drug Free Schools Program. We provide alcohol/substance abuse assessment sessions for students who are suspended from school for:
- substance use,
- possession of paraphernalia,
- possession of substances,
- Etc.
Laurel Helping Hands offers this video-based program led by a family counselor. Active Parenting is designed for parents of children 5 to 16 years old. The program focuses on discipline, communication, anger management and family enrichment. Parents learn practical skills centered on developing cooperation, self-esteem, and responsibility in children.
Substance use screenings – Laurel Helping Hands partners with the Prince George’s County Public School System’s Safe and Drug Free Schools Program. We provide alcohol/substance abuse assessment sessions for students who are suspended from school for substance use, possession of paraphernalia and possession of substances etc.
Participants learn constructive strategies to handle conflict in their daily lives. The training is nine sessions long and is offered in the evenings. Participants must attend all 9 sessions to complete the training and receive a certificate of completion.
